Terrace Lake Church

When Terrace Lake Church began planning its new worship space, the goal was clear: create an environment that could deliver a compelling experience for the congregation while remaining simple to use for volunteers. A 650-seat worship space built around contemporary worship, spoken teaching, a live band, multiple vocalists, and a pastor on headset mic meant building a system that could support both impact and intelligibility. Ovation Audiovisual was brought into the project through an existing relationship with the church's worship pastor and project manager. Ovation's audio expertise and confidence in Fulcrum Acoustic helped shape the direction of the system early on.
Coverage, Clarity, and Control
Ovation designed the room around five flown hangs of Fulcrum Acoustic CC Constant Curvature arrays using CC215 and CC230 loudspeakers. RX8 loudspeakers provide front fill, Sub218L subwoofers deliver low frequency support under stage, EX Series loudspeakers surround the back and sides of the room for immersive support, and CCX Series loudspeakers supply delay coverage. A Venueflex-64 immersive processor facilitates Active Acoustics and Object-Based Mixing technologies. Together, these elements form one coordinated system that delivers consistent coverage, strong speech intelligbility, and an engaging worship experience.
Consistent Coverage, Clear Speech
The CC Constant Curvature arrays play a major role in the success of the system. In any constant curvature design, smooth transition from box to box is the goal. What stands out here is how well the CC achieves it. Ovation values the way the arrays maintain tonal consistency and avoid audible seams, helping the system feel unified no matter where someone is seated. Bob Cochran, owner of Ovation Audiovisual, describes it this way: "It's a fantastic product. It sounds like Fulcrum, and the transition from box to box is very, very good."
Passive cardoid performance is another key reason the system is a strong fit. The main arrays that curve around front of the stage send low-mid energy back toward center stage, where the pastor speaks on a headset microphone. Fulcrum's passive cardioid design helps reduce that rear spill, keeping the stage quieter and preventing feedback. Cochran emphasized the practical benefit clearly: "Being able to limit some of those most feedback prone frequencies is a big deal."
Immersive Tools with Real Impact
Fulcrum's Venueflex immersive solution was chosen because it could improve both the technical sound of the room and the worship experience while being more attainable than other immersive approaches under consideration. With Object-Based Mixing, sources can be placed in space in a way that feels more natural and easier to follow, helping vocals stay present while giving instruments room around them. Active Acoustics adds flexibility by allowing the room to respond differently for music and speech improving both impact and clarity. "The system sounds huge, very enveloping. It's a whole different experience than a traditional stereo or mono PA. You feel like you're in the middle of the music, not just standing on the edge looking on. When you experience it, you immediately get why immersive is so powerful.", says Cochran. The result is a worship space that feels more engaging and more emotionally connected for the congregation.
Designed for Ease of Use
Fulcrum One software also played an important role in the project. It helped Ovation streamline the path from system design to setup. This made it easier for them to evaluate loudspeaker options, adjust coverage in real time, and refine the design efficiently. Fulcrum One's ease of use also benefits the end-user with an approachable workspace for day-to-day operation. This is especially important to Terrace Lake's volunteer-driven production team. Cochran put it simply: "One of the things that is really cool about Fulcrum's immersive approach is that you get better and simpler at the same time."
A Better Experience, End to End
For Terrace Lake Church, the Fulcrum Acoustic loudspeakers, immersive processor, and software solution create a cohesive system that delivers consistent coverage across the seating area, clear speech intelligibility, and an engaging worship environment while remaining easy to use for the voluneet team. Cochran describes the effect this way: "People walk into the space from an incredibly busy, complex, overwhelming world, and it makes it easier to shut all of that out and focus on what is happening in the room."
