Bethany First Church of the Nazarene

Built in 1969, Bethany First Church of Nazarene is a 1,650-seat mid-century modern cathedral with a large pipe organ as a backdrop for the stage. With a growing congregation, they reconfigured seating and expanded their programming. To support these changes, they desired a new sound system that could reinforce both their traditional services and contemporary band-driven worship.  

Fulcrum Acoustic delivered a flexible acoustic solution centered on active acoustics immersive technology, allowing the church to enhance and control the acoustic character of the space. This enables the sanctuary to shift the acoustics of the room seamlessly between a cathedral–like reverberation for choir and orchestral instrumentals and a more controlled environment for contemporary worship and spoken word.  

The active acoustics technology is powered by a Venueflex processor. A distributed Fulcrum Acoustic loudspeaker system ensures consistent coverage and natural tonal balance throughout the room. The main system is comprised of two hangs of FL283T Dual 8" passive cardioid line arrays. CCX12 passive cardioid coaxial loudspeakers and surround column loudspeakers act as delays and facilitate the active acoustics. Low-frequency support is provided by Sub118 subwoofers. With the Venueflex processor and new sound system, the sanctuary has experienced improved sound quality, clarity, and audience engagement.
