St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School Gymnasium
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, recently added a new gymnasium to its K-8 campus. The multi-purpose space serves not only for sports but also for assemblies, concerts, and worship services. The school selected Metro Sound & Video for the project after successful collaborations on previous AV upgrades.
Challenges
- New construction with untreated acoustics: bare metal walls, concrete surfaces, and a wooden floor
- Needed a system to support both athletic events and worship services with clear speech intelligibility and strong, even output
- The school needed a high-performance system while staying on a budget

Solution
Metro Sound & Video used Fulcrum One software to design the system. When the system was installed, its performance matched the Fulcrum One projections with remarkable accuracy. “What impressed me most was how closely the real-world results lined up with what we saw in Fulcrum One. That accuracy made the whole process more efficient and gave us confidence going into the install,” says designer Jake Beyer.
The final system included two DX1295 mains for coverage, a CS218L subwoofer for controlled low-frequency impact, a CX826 positioned at the scorekeepers’ table to provide dedicated fill during sporting events, and four RX6 loudspeakers to cover the mezzanine seating. The DX1295 loudspeakers provided more output than expected, giving the design enough headroom to support both athletic events and worship services without requiring additional mains. Powersoft amplifiers and a Symetrix DSP completed the system.
Outcome
The system exceeded expectations, delivering consistent, intelligible sound throughout the gym despite its reflective surfaces. Teachers and staff were especially impressed by how easy the system was to use for different types of events. This installation marked another successful project between the school and Metro Sound & Video.
“We were honestly shocked at how well it performed in a completely untreated space,” says Jonathan Harlfinger. “The coverage was consistent whether you were on the floor, in the stands, or up in the mezzanine. The school was very impressed with the clarity.”
