Shades of Skin kicks off tour with Fulcrum Acoustic
Shades of Skin, a popular Christian rock band based in New England, recently kicked off their “Glow in the Dark” tour with loudspeakers by Fulcrum Acoustic. The tour’s inaugural performance was held at Faith Fellowship Church in Uxbridge, Mass., with sound mixing provided by veteran FOH engineer and live sound tech Joe Klein of Corporate Sound in North Attleboro, Mass.
The band features Brian Heil on bass, Steve Stratton on lead guitar and vocals, Matt Rossetti on keyboard and vocals, Ken Kaiser on guitar, and Justin Walker on drums. The band was a winner of the 2004 Palladium Battle of the Bands and made it to the finals in the 2006 Boston Battle of the Bands in Boston, Mass.
The group performed in the church’s sanctuary, a fan-shaped space measuring approximately 70’ deep and 80’ at its widest. Instead of the house system, Klein opted to use a pair of Fulcrum Acoustic DX1295 dual 12 inch coaxial loudspeakers with one US221 dual 21 inch direct-radiating subwoofer. The touring rig was processed by a BSS Soundweb London system and powered by a Lab.gruppen fP10000Q amplifier and a Lab.gruppen fP13000 amplifier.
Klein, who mixed the show on an APB-Dynasonics console, was thrilled at the sound dispersion and vocal clarity provided by the Fulcrum enclosures. “I had experienced the DX1295 loudspeakers at a demo a while back and the Fulcrum products had my attention,” says Klein. “The DX1295 loudspeakers are lightweight, compact, and puts out a lot of sound for the size. Too many manufacturers are making boxes that are very non-musical and exhibit numerous anomalies; Fulcrum is one of the pioneers trying to change that paradigm.”
The Fulcrum Acoustic system gave us the punch we desired for the kick off our tour. The single US221 sub added tremendous depth to our low end and the DX1295 loudspeakers enhanced our singers vocal range while providing a crystal clear experience for our audience. We heard nothing but praises from our fans! … Thank you Fulcrum Acoustic, we couldn’t have partnered with anyone better to kick off our tour. – Shades of Skin (www.shadesofskin.com)
