DX Series hits a high note for Worcester Polytechnic

Fulcrum Acoustic recently supplied a pair of DX1295 loudspeakers to Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Mass., in support of their production of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “South Pacific” held in Alden Memorial Hall.

Although WPI is best known as one of the top engineering schools in the country, the college’s Department of Humanities and Arts does not stand in the shadows. The department runs a strong program, offering musical productions and live theater presentations throughout the school year. WPI’s student musical theatre company, VOX, produced “South Pacific”.

The Fulcrum Acoustic DX1295 loudspeakers were a great fit for the needs of the musical production. Its 90 degree by 45 degree beamwidth provided an even coverage pattern for the hall’s seating area. Flown from the overhead truss, the compact enclosures were discrete and didn’t draw attention away from the stage. Most importantly, the sonic clarity of the DX1295 meant that audiences could understand the performance – everything from a hushed whisper to a heart-wrenching solo to a bright, cheery chorus line.

“I must say the speakers sound amazing and are working out great,” said Matthew Houstle, technical director for the performance. Houstle, along with sound designer/engineer Barry Kosherick, assistant sound designer/engineer Will Grudzinski, and executive producer Thomas Collins were integral in coordinating the Fulcrum gear.

In addition to the DX1295 loudspeakers, Fulcrum also provided a pair of MC2 Audio E45 amplifiers and an XTA DP448 loudspeaker processor to round out the audio rig.
